One of my favorite things about photographing elopements in Scotland is how every couple creates a day that feels completely their own. This beautiful Edinburgh elopement was the perfect example of that.
The day began inside the breathtaking National Portrait Gallery in the heart of Edinburgh. Instead of worrying about unpredictable Scottish weather, these two chose to rent the gallery after hours, giving them a peaceful, intimate space to exchange vows surrounded by soaring archways, stained glass, and incredible architecture. It felt like we had the entire building to ourselves, allowing every moment to unfold naturally without crowds wandering through the background.
After the ceremony, we headed out to the House of the Binns. While it’s technically a stately home rather than a castle, it absolutely delivers that grand Scottish estate feeling. Between the historic stone architecture, tree-lined drive, and sweeping grounds, it offered everything couples dream of when they imagine getting married in Scotland. It was the perfect contrast to the elegance of the gallery and gave their photos a timeless, romantic feel.
The result was an elopement that combined the best of both worlds: historic Edinburgh charm and dramatic Scottish architecture, all without needing to hike a mountain or brave the rain.
