1: Where is Northern Ireland?

Located just above Ireland is Northern Ireland! Yes, they are two separate countries and have quite a recent history of trouble, so definitely don’t mix them up! Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom, so they use Great British Pounds (GBP) as a currency, not Euros. Be sure to do a little research on Northern Ireland before you visit and avoid ordering drinks like Irish Car Bombs, it’s not a funny joke over here!

  • Dunluce Castle
  • Giant’s Causeway
  • Dunseverick Castle
  • Kinbane Castle

2: How to Travel Around Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is not the best for public transportation compared to other European countries, so I recommend getting a car! This is also helpful when exploring the coast on your own time. It’s easy to fly into the country and hit the ground exploring!

Major Airports in Northern Ireland:

Here, list out the major airports in the state – either in one list, or you could divide it into two lists of international airports & domestic airports.

  • Belfast International | West of Belfast, good to fly into and go somewhere else!
  • Belfast City | Closer to the city, great if you want to explore Belfast!
  • Dublin Airport  | In the Republic of Ireland, about 2 hours South of Belfast

How to Travel Around Northern Ireland by Car

You should definitely hire a car when in Northern Ireland! Public transport is a little scarce near the coast and Ubers are more like taxis in the UK. While you’re on the other side of the road in the UK, it’s still intuitive driving! Definitely make sure you select a car that has automatic transmission if you’re used to that. Most cars here are manual unless otherwise stated.

Here’s a quick guide of driving in the UK!
